Reflections from MVNO Nation 2022
Last week we attended MVNO Nation in Valencia. It was a truly inspiring opportunity to meet MVNOs and other telecom providers across Europe to discuss learnings, trends and emerging opportunities in the market.
We were invited to share learnings from our journey launching a successful MVNO in Sweden and I (Martina Klingvall, Founder) joined two of the panel debates discussing digitalization, innovation and how to drive differentiation through customer experience and technology.
Some of the main learnings from the event:
1. MVNOs have some clear competitive advantages
As for all businesses, we both have strengths and weaknesses. If we know our strengths and use them, magic can happen. One advantage and thus opportunity for MVNOs is the possibility to choose a specific target segment, and to be good at creating value for that specific segment
Another opportunity for MVNOs is the possibility to be much faster in developing and launching new services and products, since there is no legacy in products or technology, and to use this in future innovation and go to market strategies.
2. Telecom providers must be better at creating value for their customers
What many people in the industry spoke about as unique or differentiating in the past decade such as digitalization, self-service and automation are now the new standard for customers The winners in the telecom industry will be those who first catch up with the standards and start utilising their time to drive real innovation, differentiation, and customer value.
3. The underserved B2B segment is a massive opportunity in several markets
As for many products and services, new releases and standards are often set and launched in the consumer segment. Most MVNOs are focusing on the consumer market but have begun to investigate the opportunities for the underserved B2B segment. Previously it has been too expensive to target the SMB segment with traditional and manual sales. Still, digital sales funnels and self-service enable new opportunities and revenue streams for this large and profitable segment.
